i want to share a project i have been helping out with over the past few months!
my friend started a pretty interesting project during the summer of 2024. he has a passion for music in all of its forms. he plays a variety of instruments, collects as many as he can and his dedication even stretches to musical theatre where he has another project where he creates video essays on the subject.
this new project is called “The Instrument Makers”.
he has been going to different instrument makers around the world and interviewing them and sharing their stories. he is releasing about two videos every month which you can watch on youtube. i have been with him to a couple. they are rather fascinating.
okay. plug over. what’s this got to do with me?
well first off. i have been making the thumbnails for both projects… so i guess he can blame the views on me! thumbnail creation is weirdly hard. you have no idea when and where someone is going to come across a thumbnail and what they would need in that moment to click.
anyway. back to the point. i made some merch!
this was a pure flow situation… my friend also loves rats. and rats + instruments = rats playing instruments.
i had the idea and i ran with it, and i made as many rats playing instruments as i could.

i am so very proud of myself for managing the ridiculous anatomy.
i chose the instruments to roughly cover the types of instruments he owns, but also get some representation for Japanese instruments given we are in Japan, hence the koto and the taiko.
